Specialist services JV wins stay cable bridge project

Specialist companies Structural Systems (UK) Ltd, BBR PTE S.L. and VSL Systems (UK) Ltd have formed a joint venture to offer the Mersey Gateway Bridge project an optimized specialist service. This approach was considered beneficial for the project and, after 12 months of intense negotiation, resulted in a contract award to the JV in September 2015 – with an immediate start on site. The new bridge is a three-pylon, cable stayed, post-tensioned design - the outer two pylons are each around 125m high and the central pylon is 80m high, with clear outer spans of 200m each with inner spans of 300m. Together with the post-tensioned approach viaducts, the total length will be 2.13km. This particular design was chosen as it maximizes benefits for users and the local community while minimizing impact on the environment.
