Other BBR PT systems

Since 1944, BBR has developed and pioneered post-tensioning, introducing many finest Swiss-engineered technologies along the way including the BBRV® wire system and the CONA strand PT series. These systems are still used for special applications or applied in certain markets as the locally approved PT systems. Typical applications are bridge projects, buildings and heavy infrastructure such as energy, transport and water installations.

CONA Multi
CONA Compact
CONA Flat

BBR CONA Multi

The BBR CONA Multi was the first development of a strand system using seven-wire prestressing strands. Available anchorages include the active and passive anchorages, the fixed coupler type K (with sleeve) and the movable coupler type KC (also with sleeve).

BBR CONA Compact

The BBR CONA Compact was a further development of the CONA Multi system using seven-wire prestressing strands. Available anchorages include the active and passive anchorages and the fixed couplers type K (with overlap) and type GH (with sleeve).

BBR CONA Flat

The BBR CONA Flat is a bonded post-tensioning system using seven-wire prestressing strands and is particularly suitable for thin construction elements. Anchorages available include the active and passive anchorages.

BBR CONA Single

The BBR CONA Single with monostrands is used where small post-tensioning units are required. For unbonded tendons, the strand is coated with a special protective grease and encased in a plastic conduit. In case of bonded tendons, a corrugated metal or plastic sheath is installed, which is cement grouted after the stressing operations. Available anchorages include the active and passive anchorages and the intermediate anchorages with continuous strand or with coupler sleeve.

BBR CONA External

The BBR CONA External was a further development of the CONA Compact system using seven-wire prestressing strands and is particularly suitable for unbonded external tendons. Available anchorages include the active and passive anchorages and the tendons can be installed as Basic Types (non-replaceable) or as Replaceable Types.

BBRV Wire

BBRV post-tensioning cables were one of the earliest and most reliable post-tensioning systems. This parallel wire post-tensioning system was developed by BBR in 1944 and has since been continuously advanced. The BBRV tendon is composed of a bundle of 7 mm diameter wires. Active and passive anchorages of different types all rely on cold-formed proprietary BBR button heads with which each wire is fixed in a compact anchor head. Coupler anchorages (with sleeves or rods) and fan-type fixed anchorages are also available.

Elephant house roof, Zurich Zoo

The centerpiece of Zurich Zoo’s 10,000m2 Kaeng Krachan Elephant Park is a circular concrete elephant house with a striking curved wooden roof structure. The giant roof with an area of 6,000m2 and 85m in diameter acts as a self-supporting shell structure, whose loads are transferred via a post-tensioned concrete ring beam to local roof foundations. The ring beam is prestressed with nine BBRV wire PT tendons with lengths of up to 120m.
