Project of the Year 2014

Seaford Bridge - South Australia

The winner of the 2014 BBR Project of Year goes to the Seaford Bridge, spanning the environmentally sensitive Okaparinga River. Over a kilometer long, this is the longest incrementally launched bridge in Australia and 3rd longest in the world.

Australian BBR Network Member, Structural Systems, worked closely with the main design and construct contractor - a JV between Thiess and MacDow.

The new railway line ‘went live’ in February 2014 – and had previously been commended by Engineers Australia in their 2013 South Australian Engineering Excellence Awards for its “innovatively incrementally launched bridge methodology.

The BBR judging panel declared the Seaford Bridge scheme BBR Network Project of the Year because it “admirably demonstrates the major and multi-disciplined project capability of the BBR Network, as well as the ability to provide innovative solutions which protect the environment while delivering quality services to customers.
