Seaford Railway Bridge

A unique civil engineering project in Australia

BBR Network Member Structural Systems Ltd has recently created the longest incrementally launched bridge in Australia and the third longest in the world. The Seaford Rail Bridge is the key feature in the 5.7km long passenger railway line extension from Noarlunga to Seaford. To accomplish the project, 22 spans of up to 52.3m long were constructed, cast in steel formwork were established at either end of the bridge and then jacked progressively into place. A total of 48 segments were built this way, mainly 26.15m long. The 1,125m long structure recently received an Engineering Excellence Commendation award in Australia.
