Durability of BBR technology proven - again

Inspection of stay cable installation at Rama VIII Bridge

A recent inspection at the Rama VIII Bridge in Bangkok, Thailand has yet again proved the long-term durability of BBR stay cable technology. The bridge, one of the world's largest asymmetrical cable-stayed bridges when completed in 2002, has a single 160m tall Y-shaped pylon from which 84 BBR CONA stay cables are arranged. A team from BBR Headquarters R&D and local BBR Network Member, BBR Construction Systems Malaysia, carried out an extensive inspection consisting of two stages – one purely visual, the second requiring selective removal of the protective caps covering the anchors. It was established that, after 15 years’ service, the BBR stay cables are in good condition, with no signs of serious corrosion on the anchor heads, wedges or strands.
